Star Wars Text

Using Quads to force perspective -- sort of.

People have been asking for years how to do the 20+-year-old crawl from Star Wars in Director. Well, here's one quick-and-dirty method. It uses the Director 7 quad property to make a trapezoidal shape out of a fixed-size text cast member, then uses the scrolltop property to handle the crawl.

You'll notice that the illusion isn't perfect, however. Because the edges are merely slanted inward at the top, the actual height of the lines doesn't vary, so there's no feeling of actual distance at the top of the sprite. You could modify the height of the lines of text, but what a hellish task to manage that and the scrolltop.
